About
Often described by my friends as an “extroverted introvert,” I’m the person that makes sure everyone at the party is having a good time, but also the person alone in the corner browsing reddit on their phone. I value inclusivity and nothing makes me happier than seeing people from all different backgrounds band together to work towards a common goal. Ultimately, this is what made me fall in love with design-- In the past decade, I’ve been: a barista, retail sales associate, cost accountant, pricing coordinator, software developer but what sets design apart from all the above is the people. I have never been part of such a diverse, selfless and giving community in which one day I also hope to give back to.
If I’m being honest, I didn’t have the best first impression of UX. Usability Engineering (Intro to UX) at OSU briefly touched on some UX but as an aspiring (ignorant) software engineer, I didn't take the class as serious as I should have. It wasn’t until I was a developer at a start up with no design presence, that I realized the importance of UX. I tried to take on the responsibility of both developing and designing different interfaces within the app and while trying to learn the basics of UX and UI, I became fascinated at the intricacies that go into making intuitive, user centered and beautiful digital experiences. I eventually found myself enjoying UX work much more than I did developing.
It wasn’t that I didn’t enjoy developing, I just enjoyed UX design much more. I love that it demands both critical and creative problem solving while also giving me a chance to sometimes express myself artistically. I have always considered myself both equally right and left brain oriented and UX felt like a perfect fit. I ultimately decided to join General Assembly’s UX Immersive boot camp to “kickstart” my career into UX. I remember the sleepless nights during the boot camp wondering if I was making the right choice… if I chose this path, there was most likely no going back. Well, thank goodness I stuck with it because I haven’t looked back since.
